Naturalist Forum at Gilsland Farm - Organic Gardening

Join us for an introductory presentation and slide show on how to plan and plant your own vegetable garden the organic way with Lisa Fernandes, local gardener and permaculture grower. Attendees will go home with enough knowledge and tools to start growing a portion of their family's food in their own yards in harmony with their natural surroundings. Bring a notebook - handouts provided.


Presenter: Lisa Fernandes is the organizer and founding member of Portland Maine Permaculture, Director of The Resilience Hub and has been a student of permaculture and green design since 1992

Lecture: Public Parks: Care and Cultivation of Fort Williams Park

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 7 PM, Public Parks: Care and Cultivation of Fort Williams Park


Moderator, Terrence DeWan, Landscape Architect, with Bill Brownell, Fort Williams Advisory Committee, Lynn Shaffer, Steering Committee, Arboretum at Fort, and Dick Gilbane, Friends of Goddard Mansion and board member Greater Portland Landmarks

Current initiatives seek to find sustainable funding models for Fort Williams, preserve the park’s history, character, and architecture, and to define and provide appropriate visitor amenities. These include efforts to maintain the ruins of the Goddard Mansion, to establish a new arboretum, and to keep access to the park free to individual visitors.
 
Each program will include a moderator plus three speakers representing a variety of perspectives related to the topic followed by discussion with the audience. All programs take place at the Maine Historical Society, 489 Congress Street, Portland.

Winter Transportation: From Horse to Horseless

Have you visited Skyline Farm in Yarmouth?

Skyline's new museum exhibit, "Winter Transportation: From Horse to Horseless", is free and open to the public every Sunday, Feb. 12 through March 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. You can view  horse-drawn vehicles - they will be displayed in the museum and driven outdoors.

The $8 admission fee (or $30/family) includes one sleigh ride given by J. L. Gray & Son of Monmouth and his handsome pair of Percheron horses. Visit today!

Good Night Nature

Families of young children with parent or guardian (adults, and infant and toddler siblings up to 2 are welcome at no charge).


This gentle hour based around a bedtime story about animals of the night. Come in your pajamas, but be prepared to venture outdoors in the moonlight. You’ll play, sing, create art and have a snack before you head home to sleep.

The Falmouth Food Pantry has teamed up with Gorham Savings Bank to help fight cancer this month. The Falmouth locations of Gorham Savings Bank and other local businesses will collect food and toiletry donations, so that the Food Bank can help those in need in our community.
