IBS Info Event

The Road to Health is Paved with Good Intestines

6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012

If you suffer from chronic bloating, abdominal pain, abdominal cramping, diarrhea or constipation, you may be one of the 60 million Americans who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome. Unfortunately conventional medicine offers little assistance for patient suffering from this often debilitating syndrome. Often patients are told it is all in their heads and prescribed anti-depressant medications or told take more fiber. While these can provide symptomatic relief for some, for most they are ineffective. Fortunately by uncovering and treating the underlying causes of irritable bowel syndrome it is possible to obtain lasting relief. Dr Peter Knight is a Naturopathic Doctor at Healthy Living Health Care in Falmouth Maine. He will discuss the common underlying causes of irritable bowel syndrome and how to effectively treat them using natural therapies. Join us at our store for this free event. http://www.apothecarybydesign.com/event_detail.php?id=150&cid=569

Lecture on the Gateways to Portland: Rebuilding Veterans and Martin’s Point Bridges

TUESDAY, APRIL 24, 7 PM, Gateways to Portland: Rebuilding Veterans and Martin’s Point Bridges

Moderator Sally Oldham, Greater Portland Landmarks, with Joyce Taylor, Director, Project Development, Maine Department of Transportation, Patrick Costin, Martin’s Point Bridge Advisory Committee, and Theo Holtwijk, Director of Long Range Planning, Town of Falmouth

Two of Portland’ most important and heavily trafficked bridges—Veterans Memorial Bridge and the Martin’s Point Bridge—are currently being rebuilt. These projects have mobilized diverse stakeholders, and raise practical issues ranging from cost to traffic efficiency, social issues like the impact on local neighbors, and conceptual issues such as how the design of a bridge or roadway heralds entry into a city.

Each program will include a moderator plus three speakers representing a variety of perspectives related to the topic followed by discussion with the audience. All programs take place at the Maine Historical Society, 489 Congress Street, Portland
