Falmouth Maine Public Meeting - tonight

PUBLIC MEETING FOR MARTIN'S POINT BRIDGE

On Tuesday, August 7 at 6 p.m. inn the State of Maine Room in Portland City Hall, the public will have the opportunity to view and comment on the Martin's Point Bridge Advisory Committee's recommendations on such items as bridge railings, fishing platforms and lighting fixtures for the new bridge which joins Portland to Falmouth. All interested individuals are encouraged to attend and participate in the meeting. The Martin's Point Bridge Advisory Committee worked closely with MaineDOT in developing the state Request for Proposal, emphasizing that the new bridge should blend with the natural environment and is envisioned to be a multi use facility in every sense of the word. As a result, the bridge includes a 10 foot separated pathway for bicyclists and pedestrians, an additional sidewalk, a 12 foot travel lane, shoulders for experienced bicyclists and a fishing platform. Landscaping at each end will include locations for pedestrians to stop and enjoy the views. The existing bridge, built in 1943, is scheduled for demolition in 2014, immediately after the new bridge is completed. The old bridge will stay open for traffic throughout the construction process.
