The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will host its 2nd annual Backyard Locavore Tour. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for Seniors and Kids under 12 are free.
The Backyard Locavore Tour, an educational, edible garden tour provided by University of Maine Cooperative Extension trained volunteer Master Gardeners, Master Food Preservers and 4-H families.
This event will showcase successful backyard “do-it-yourself” strategies for growing, raising, harvesting and preserving foods to become more self-reliant in meeting your own food needs. Topics featured through demonstrations, tours, talks and food samples include:
* Vegetable gardening,
* Square foot gardening methods,
* Bee-keeping,
* Root cellaring,
* Drying foods,
* Canning foods,
* Freezing vegetables and fruits,
* Composting,
* Raising chickens for eggs and meat,
* High yield Fruit Trees.

The event is to raise funds for The Tidewater Regional Learning Center at Tidewater Farm in Falmouth, the University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s future home in Cumberland County.
