The Town of Falmouth is partnering with local businesses


to host a SHOP FALMOUTH EVENT.

The multi-day event festivities include a Community Programs Drop and Shop for children on Friday, shopping events throughout local businesses, ME Audubon’s Annual Eyes on Owls Weekend, a Sunday Volksmarch, Wreath’s Across America motorcade, a toy drive and much more!

afternoon trip to the historic Quaker Tavern

Falmouth Community Programs will be sponsoring an afternoon trip to the historic Quaker Tavern on Tuesday, December 11.  Quaker Tavern was built by the Hall family of Quakers around 1780 and contains wonderful period furniture and antique folk art.  Hostess Donna Little will share 200 years of history with us.  Cost is $13 for residents/$18 for non-residents.  Deadline to register is December 5;  please register through Falmouth Community Programs.

Collins' staff to hold office hours in Falmouth

Senator Collins' staff from her Portland office will hold office hours at the Town of Falmouth on Tuesday, December 4th. Her staff will help you with questions you may have about federal issues and the different federal agencies such as the Social Security Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the IRS. No appointment is necessary. Appointments are kept confidential.

SHOP FALMOUTH EVENT

FIRST SHOP FALMOUTH EVENT PLANNED




The Falmouth Ecoonomic Improvement Committee was created by the Town Council in 2011 to focus on economic development and support for local retail and professional service businesses, shops and not profits in Falmouth. The idea for an Annual Event to support these efforts in the town is a creation of the committee.



The 26th Annual Falmouth Community Tree Lighting will be held on December 5 from 5:30 to 6:30 at the Falmouth Village Park. There will be cookie decorating, singing and a visit from Santa. Honoring the holiday spirit, please bring a canned good to donate to the Falmouth Food Pantry.



On Friday, December 7, Falmouth Community Programs is offering a "Drop and Shop" for children from 5 to 9 p.m. Reservations are required FMI 781-5252 x 5302 Pizza and a good evening of fun and games are planned for children and adults can dine, shop and walk around Town. Town Councilors will collect unwrapped toys and books from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday evening in front of the Plummer-Motz office.



On Saturday, December 8, the Maine Audubon is sponsoring their extremely popular, annual "Eyes on Owls" program. Naturalist Marcia Wilson and photographer Mark Wilson will present the owls. There will be hooting lessons, an entertaining slide show and a close-up look at several different species. The morning is tailored to young children. This is one of the most popular events at the Audubon so you are encouraged to call them an make a reservation at 781-2330 ext. 273.



During the week end December 6, 7 and 8 the Theatre Company at Falmouth High will present, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" Emaill theatre@falmouth schools.org for more information.



Family Ice will be open during the week-end. Sunday, December 9 has two interesting events. Volksmarch - the "People's Walk" will start at the Maine Audubon Society at Gilsand Farm in Falmouth. FMI 781-2330 Also on the day "Wreaths Across America" will be coming through Town on Rte One about 4:25 pm. on its way to Arlington Cemetery. The convoy is made up of 50 vehicles including tractor trailers, motorcycles, support vehicles and police vehicles. Please watch for updated information on this event.

Assessing the Effects of Wind Energy Development in the Gulf of Maine with A. J. Leppold and R. L. Holberton, Laboratory of Avian Biology, University of Maine; a lecture on Tuesday, November 27 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Maine Audubon Society Gilsland Farm. Holberton and Leppold will give an overview of some of the current research underway as part of the large, collaborative Northeast Regional Migration Monitoring Network. Information they share regarding bird migration in the region will be presented in the context of existing and emerging challenges facing our migrants, with an emphasis on assessing potential impact ofon land-based and offshore wind energy development. Falmouth Maine Winter Parking Ban 2012-2013

Winter Parking Ban


(Chapter 17, Sec. 17-91 of Falmouth Town Ordinances)

No vehicle shall be parked at any time on any street, way or road so as to interfere with or hinder the plowing or removal of snow from any street, way or road. The Chief of Police may cause any vehicle parked on any street, way or road so as to interfere with or hinder the plowing or removal of snow to be removed from the street in accordance with the provisions of section 17-82 (Authority to remove vehicle while illegally parked).



No vehicle shall be parked on any town-maintained way or road between the hours of midnight and 6:00 a.m. from November 15th to April 15th. (Code 1966, Ch. 702, s. 6)

The General Election is held nationally on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November. Maine voters will select their choice for President/Vice President (this process is called the "popular vote") and elect one of Maine's two United States Senators, Maine's Representatives to Congress, members of the Maine Legislature, and certain county officers. In addition, voters will be asked to vote on one citizen initiative and four bond questions. Voting in Falmouth will be held on Tuesday, November 6 at Falmouth High School from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. You may also register to vote at the polls. Please bring a picture ID and Proof of residency. The Falmouth Economic Improvement Committee is organizing the first “Shop Falmouth” event to be held December 7, 8 and 9, 2012.

The Event Committee is working with many Falmouth businesses to join efforts with the Town's Community Programs Department to stimulate a “shop local, buy local” weekend promotion.

The committee is reaching out to all Falmouth businesses and volunteers with the hope that they will participate in this event.

Town Council meeting on November 14

COMMERCIAL BUILDING FOOTPRINTS LIMITATIONS DECISION POSTPONED


There will be a workshop on November 14 to provide more time for the Town Council to discuss language impacting existing buildings: including to what extent footprint restrictions should apply to existing buildings. The Town Council meeting on November 14 is a workshop and by Town Council rules, public input is not typically allowed at a workshop. Public input is allowed for any item that is not on the agenda via Public Forum agenda items. Further public input on this matter has not yet been decided by the Town Council.
