Falmouth High School Students Chosen for Jazz All-State Festival
Several Falmouth High School music students received good news after undergoing rigorous auditions last week for the Maine Jazz All-State Festival. The results are out, and eight Falmouth band and chorus students were selected to perform at the festival.
The students are:
Kelsey Coyne (soprano)
Riley Engelberger (bass)
Alexandra Ertman (baritone sax)
Matt Estabrook (bass)
Alex Han (piano)
Nick Groat (drums)
Emma Mooradian (alto sax)
Julia Warnock (soprano)
“We are proud of the hard work of our musicians,” says Falmouth High School chorus teacher Wendy Northrup. “It is a great accomplishment to be accepted to Jazz All-State.”
Falmouth band director Jim Horwich says it’s the first time in recent history that the school has had four band students who were selected for the honors level and above at the festival.
The Maine Music Educators Association organizes the annual Jazz All-State Festival, which will be held January 3-5, 2013, at Bangor High School. The festival features high school singers and instrumentalists from all parts of Maine who rehearse together intensively for two days, culminating in a concert. Professional musicians from outside of Maine lead various combinations and groups of the students, alongside music teachers from various Maine schools.
Last year’s Jazz All-State Festival performance has been featured multiple times as part of the Maine Public Broadcasting Network’s television and radio programming. Several Falmouth music students were highlighted in those broadcasts.
